BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A portion of Highway 178 is closed Tuesday morning as crews tackle a wildfire in the Kern River Canyon.
The River Fire began at around 8:20 a.m. Monday at Highway 178 and Rancheria Road and has burned around 2300 acres so far. It is 10% contained.
Crews from Kern County Fire, Cal Fire, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service are fighting the blaze from both the air and the ground.
Meanwhile, the Wood Fire has burned nearly 300 acres since erupting Monday morning west of Tehachapi. It is 20% contained.
There’s no word yet on the cause of either fire.
No injuries have been reported.
