BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A trial date has been postponed for a Bakersfield man charged with murder for allegedly killing his sister-in-law.
Prosecutors say Paul Magallanes, 38, shot Margarita Lopez, 38, at point-blank range during an argument outside a Pearl Street home after a dispute involving his brother in April 2024.
Defense attorneys claim Magallanes acted in self-defense, alleging Lopez pointed a gun at him before the shooting.
A new trial date has been set for August 17, 2026.
