DELANO, CA (KUZZ) — The Delano City Council is expected to approve the renaming of several city facilities during their meeting June 15, 2026.
The action comes on the heels of a report in March where the New York Times reported allegations against the late labor leader Cesar Chavez, saying he had sexually abused and groomed women and girls who worked in the United Farmworkers movement.
Cesar Chavez Park would become Ellington Park, while Cesar Chavez Lane would be shortened to Chavez Lane.
Bassett Avenue is also proposed to be renamed 20th Avenue east of Browning Road.
Mayor Salvador Solorio-Ruiz says the city has already begun removing and replacing signs.
The changes follow council action in April that also approved removing depictions of Chavez from city murals.
The meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. at Delano City Hall.
