A convicted killer who escaped from custody at a Delano courthouse has been captured in Mexico.

Mexican officials say Cesar Hernandez, 34, was arrested Thursday night in the eastern zone of Tijuana.

Hernandez was unarmed when officials with Mexican Army Special Forces apprehended him. No shots were fired, no one was injured.

Hernandez allegedly shot and killed officer Abigail Reyes, 33, during a shootout with police in Tijuana April 9. Hernandez was one of several suspects being sought by Mexican authorities.

Hernandez escaped from state prison guards who were preparing to take him inside a Kern County courthouse in Delano on December 2, 2024.
