A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in east Bakersfield.
It all started around 6 p.m. Saturday when police say a driver hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Baker and Sumner streets, then took off.
The driver sped northbound on Baker Street, blew a red light at Niles Street, and slammed into another vehicle. Both cars burst into flames.
The hit-and-run driver was taken to the hospital with significant injuries and is being guarded by police say. The other driver died at the scene.
The pedestrian, who was on life-support, died on Sunday.
Investigators are waiting for toxicology results to determine if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
There’s no word yet on the names of the people involved.
