An inmate at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano died after being found in his cell with serious injuries.

Prison authorities are investigating the death Friday morning of Fernando Camarillo-Cervantes, 22, as a homicide. Staff reported seeing Camarillo-Cervantes on the floor of his cel with Albert Gonzalez, 50, allegedly standing inside the cell nearby.

Gonzalez was placed in restricted housing as investigators from the prison and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office investigate the incident. He’s serving eleven years for a carjacking out of Los Angeles County.

Camarillo-Cervantes was serving a 21-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter in Santa Barbara County.
