A Kern County judge added a murder charge Tuesday to the list of crimes leveled against a Visalia mother whose 1-year-old son died inside a hot car in southwest Bakersfield..

Prosecutors say Maya Hernandez, 20, left her two young boys alone inside her Toyota Hybrid for more than two hours with the outside temperature in the 100’s while she got a lip filler treatment a spa on Real Road June 29.

Hernandez’s 1-year-old son Amilio Gutierrez died at the hospital. His internal temperature was 107 degrees. His 2-year-old brother survived.

Hernandez told police she thought the boys would be okay since she left the car running with the air conditioning set to 60 degrees. However the vehicle automatically shut off after an hour.

Hernandez is being held on over $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on the murder charge on July 24.
