Authorities are calling the discovery of a dead body in Mojave suspicious.

Kern County Sheriff’s Deputies say the corpse of Benjamin McCleary, 58, was found by a passerby Saturday and showed signs of being consumed by an animal but also exhibited signs of small holes with dried blood.

An ID from the California Department of Corrections was found in McCleary’s wallet.

An autopsy has been done but the cause of death is pending.
