BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A man is dead following a hit and run accident in south Bakersfield.

It happened at around 2:30 a.m. Monday on southbound Highway 99 near Taft Highway when a car struck the man as he walked along the roadside. The driver took off.

Moments later, a second car struck the man as he lay in the roadway. That driver stayed at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
