BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A 38-year-old man accused of a drunk-driving accident that left the Kern High School District police chief dead over ten years ago pleads no-contest to a charge of second-degree murder.
David Lilly faces fifteen years to life following the crash in 2011 that killed Steve Alvidrez, 52, on Highway 99 south of Delano.
Alvidrez was killed shortly before midnight on June 17, 2011, when a car slammed into the Harley-Davidson motorcycle that he and his wife, Ramona, were riding. Alvidrez died at the scene. Ramona survived after suffering major injuries.
Lilly fled across the southern border but was captured by FBI agents in Mexico in January 2025.
