BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Trial has been postponed until May for a North Edward couple accused of child abuse.
Matthew and Brittney James were apprehended in October 2025 for allegedly abusing their three adopted children.
One child described being strangled, bound with duct tape, forced to exercise excessively, and being denied food and water.
Matthew James had been employed at the Muroc Joint Unified School District.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.
