BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Bakersfield Vice Mayor Manpreet Kaur has announced her campaign for California State Senate.
Kaur says she plans to run against fellow Democrat Senator Melissa Hurtado of Bakersfield for the District 16 Senate seat.
Kaur was elected Bakersfield’s vice mayor in December 2024. She currently represents Ward 7, which covers south Bakersfield.
Hurtado is in her second term in the senate and can serve one more four-year term if re-elected.
The primary election is set for June 2, 2026.
