TAFT, CA (KUZZ) — A $4 million improvement project is happening on the streets of Taft.
Work started in early January to install curbs and sidewalks on several streets in the Ford City area.
Several streets west of Harrison have been torn up to make room for the curbs and sidewalks, including Tyler, Taylor, North Lincoln, Ash, Date and Grevillea, according to Kern County Supervisor Chris Parlier’s office.
The project is funded by federal money from the America Rescue Program Act (ARPA) and is for pedestrian path improvements.
Sidewalks are also going in on three sides of Ford City Park along Polk, Cedar and streets inside existing curbs.
The sewer work is winding down and damage done to Cedar Street between Monroe Street and Highway 119 has been repaired.
According to the Taft Midway Driller, similar pedestrian project is also coming for South Taft, Parlier’s office said.
This one, funded by Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds add curbs and sidewalks around Conley School (connecting with one small existing section) and several streets in the area, connecting with Asher Avenue and then north to existing sidewalks in the City of Taft on Fourth Street.
This project is expected to cost a little over $2 million.
