TAFT, CA (KUZZ) — The Taft City School District has hired two firms to conduct preliminary studies on sites for a new gymnasium for Lincoln Junior High School.
The board decided last summer to replace the aging gym at the campus on 6th Street but deferred a decision on whether to tear down the existing 70-year-old structure, rebuild on the site, or find another spot.
The current gym needs extensive repairs, but officials say the work would trigger expensive upgrades that would make it more cost-efficient to build a new facility.
A new gym could cost the district up to $20 million dollars and would take up to four years to complete.
