BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Two men have been sentenced after a shootout with a Bakersfield homeowner who caught them burglarizing his house.
On Wednesday, Melvin Carter received 22 years and eight months in prison, and Frederick Minnoy III was sentenced to 8 years, after accepting plea deals on attempted murder and robbery charges.
Carter, Minnoy, and an unidentified third suspect were caught red-handed by a homeowner as they were trying to burglarize his house on Pine Street in the Westchester neighborhood of downtown Bakersfield in February 2023.
Carter drew a gun and fired at the homeowner who returned the gunfire.
