BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A Bakersfield man will spend 21 years in prison for killing a local gay rights activist.
Fredi Rivera, 30, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Daniel Landeros, 43.
Rivera shot Landeros during an altercation at Yokuts Park in September 2023, where Rivera called Landeros a gay slur.
Rivera’s attorney claims his client mistook Landeros for another man who had insulted him.
