BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Bakersfield will observe Peace Officer Memorial Week today, May 14, with several ceremonies honoring fallen law enforcement officers.
The first event begins at 7 a.m. at the Peace Officers’ Memorial outside Bakersfield Police Department headquarters. Truxtun Avenue will be closed between H and Eye streets from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
At 10 a.m., the Kern County Sheriff’s Office will host a memorial at its monument on Norris Road featuring remarks from Sheriff Donny Youngblood and a roll call honoring fallen deputies and staff.
A countywide memorial ceremony is also planned for noon at the Kern County Superior Court Peace Officer Memorial Monument.
Some 57 peace officers have been killed in the line of duty in Kern County across all law enforcement agencies.
