NORTH EDWARDS, CA (KUZZ) –A child abuse case against a North Edwards couple has been delayed again.
The trial for Matthew and Brittney James will take place in August after the couple pleaded not guilty to charges including torture, child cruelty, and false imprisonment.
Investigators say the couple’s three adopted children reported years of abuse including being restrained with duct tape, deprived of food and water, and forced to exercise for hours.
Court documents also allege strangulation and other physical abuse.
The trial had already been postponed once, from January to May 2026.
Matthew James previously worked for the Muroc Joint Unified School District.
