BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A judge has paused the murder case against a 34-year-old Bakersfield man so he can undergo a mental health exam.
Prosecutors say Jerome Andreas, Jr. fatally stabbed Michael Gauthier, 60, inside Gauthier’s Taylor Street home in April.
Andreas reportedly admitted being at the home but denied the killing. Investigators reportedly found a bloodstained knife in his backpack.
Police say Andreas allegedly showed an interest in “evil things,” claiming he had tattoos of pentagrams and a wallet with 666 written on it.
The court will review the evaluation results on June 30, 2026.
