SACRAMENTO, CA (KUZZ) — A package of tax-related bills from State Senator Melissa Hurtado, R-Bakersfield, is moving to the next stage of the legislative process.
The proposal known as the 2026 Valley Taxpayers Protection Plan has cleared the State Senate and now heads to the Assembly.
Hurtado says the package is designed to reduce tax burdens on Valley families, strengthen public safety, support economic growth in the Central Valley, and increase government accountability and transparency.
The measures advanced ahead of the May 29, 2026 House of Origin deadline when bills must pass their chamber of introduction or be sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 legislative session.
