BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — The final person has been sentenced after a teenager’s newborn baby was drowned and buried in her family’s backyard in southwest Bakersfield.
Bakhshinderpal Singh Mann, 31, was sentenced Wednesday to six years’ time served after pleading no contest to charges including unlawful sex with a minor, possessing explicit photos of the girl, and being an accessory after the fact.
Authorities say Mann impregnated a 15-year-old girl in 2018, then fled to Canada after the infant’s body was discovered buried in the back yard of the family home on Shining Crag Avenue.
Mann allegedly helped the baby’s grandmother bury the body after she feared the pregnancy would bring shame to her family. She was convicted of murder and is serving 29 years to life in prison.
