BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — There’s startling new information about a dog attack that left a boy dead in California City.
The owner of three dogs that attacked two children at a Central Park pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder charges, but police say Kenneth Dobbins, 68, knew the dogs had a history of violent behavior.
Fernando Moreno, 12, drowned while escaping into a lake and an 8-year-old girl was seriously mauled during the attack June 18, 2026.
Dobbins reportedly called his dogs off but never tried to help the mauled girl or the drowning boyor even call 9-1-1.
Police say an officeralmost had to shoot the dogs due to their aggressive nature just two days before the fatal attack.
