BAKESFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Former CSU Bakersfield assistant basketball coach Kevin Mays has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading no contest to three felony charges.
The charges include pimping a prostitute, possession of child sexual abuse material, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.
Mays was arrested in September 2025 following a Bakersfield Police Department investigation into allegations that he trafficked a woman across California, Oregon and Washington.
Police said the investigation began after an anonymous tip in August 2025. Detectives later linked Mays to the alleged victim through evidence including a Washington state traffic stop involving a rental car registered to him, online advertisements, and hotel records from Sacramento.
Investigators said the woman was contacted with assistance from the Sacramento Police Department’s Human Trafficking Unit and identified Mays as her alleged trafficker.
Mays was taken into custody after police served search warrants on his vehicle and apartment near CSUB. He was initially booked on multiple charges, including human trafficking, pimping and pandering, weapons violations and drug offenses. Additional charges involving child sexual abuse material were later filed.
Mays entered his no contest plea earlier this month and was sentenced on July 30th.
