TEHACHAPI, CA (KUZZ) — A former Tehachapi Unified School District administrator was arrested Tuesday on misdemeanor charges alleging she failed to report suspected child molestation involving a district teacher, according to the Tehachapi Police Department.
Dr. Roxane Michelle Romero, who served as the district’s chief administrator of personnel, allegedly received multiple complaints from staff members, students and parents regarding inappropriate behavior by former physical education teacher Timothy Seaman, police said.
Investigators said Romero was a mandated reporter under California law and was required to notify law enforcement of suspected abuse. She was booked into jail on two counts of failing to report suspected child abuse. An arraignment date had not been set as of Tuesday.
Seaman, who is no longer employed by the district, was charged in December with multiple felony counts, including lewd or lascivious acts with a child. He has pleaded not guilty.
Police said the investigation began after a parent reported in late November that their child had been inappropriately touched by Seaman on a school campus. Detectives later identified another similar allegation involving the same campus.
Authorities searched Seaman’s Tehachapi home in December and seized several cellphones and other digital devices. Investigators said evidence related to the alleged touching incidents and child pornography possession was discovered during the search.
