BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited Bakersfield Thursday for a roundtable discussion focused on healthy food access, nutrition education and sustainability in the Central Valley.
The event highlighted hands-on educational programs through Edible Schoolyard Kern County, located on Buena Vista Road, which teaches students about healthy foods and sustainable practices.
Kennedy was joined at the schoolyard by Congressman Vince Fong (R- Bakersfield) and Dylan Wilson, executive director of the Grimm Family Education Foundation.
The Buena Vista Edible Schoolyard is a one-acre organic garden and kitchen classroom in southwest Bakersfield. The program was established in 2011 through a partnership between the Grimm Family Education Foundation and the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District.
