BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A psychiatrist testified Monday in the sanity phase of the trial of a Bakersfield man accused of slashing his wife’s throat.
Rafael Estrada is accused of killing his wife, Taylor, in May 2025 after arriving uninvited at a house on Monterey Street where she was staying with her children.
The defense claims Estrada was legally insane. Estrada told authorities he was drunk, hearing voices and had no memory of the alleged killing.
Jurors previously deadlocked on a first-degree murder charge but convicted Estrada on other charges.
