Free After-School Program

The Bakersfield Police Activities League is offering a free After-School Program starting August 26th for children ages 6–17. It runs Monday through Thursday from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM and includes snacks, dinner, tutoring, arts & crafts, games, and more. For details, visit www.bakersfieldpal.org or call (661) 283-8880. Houchin Community Blood Bank

Houchin Community Blood Bank is encouraging the community to donate blood and help save lives. Donations are needed year-round, and appointments are available at three Bakersfield locations: Bolthouse Drive, Oswell Street, and Truxtun Avenue.

The Love Your Park Fun Run & 5K

The Love Your Park Fun Run & 5K will take place on Saturday, February 1, at Polo Park. The event features an 8:30 a.m. 5K and 9:00 a.m. Fun Run, with proceeds supporting youth recreation scholarships.

BKO Fishing Derby

The 2nd Annual BKO Fishing Derby will be held on February 7, 2026, at The Park at River Walk. The event is open to all ages and features stocked trout, tagged fish worth up to $1,000, and trophies.

Pull for PAL Clay Shoot

The Bakersfield Police Activities League is hosting the 16th Annual Pull for PAL Clay Shoot on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Kern County Gun Club. Check-in is from 8:30–9:30 a.m., with the tournament starting at 9:30 a.m.
