Forty children in Bakersfield are learning to love the game of baseball thanks to a CSUB grad.

Mike Carthy, who now pitches in the Boston Red Sox minor leagues, visited Friendship House Community Center Thursday afternoon to teach America’s pastime to underprivileged elementary schoolers. He says events like these are important because it shows kids that the community loves and cares about them.

McCarthy donated equipment to the center through the charity Baseball Miracles.

CSUB grads Oscar Sanay and Miles Jones, who also play professionally, were on hand as well.
