HAVILAH COUNTY SEAT AGAIN, FOR A DAY

HAVILAH COUNTY SEAT AGAIN, FOR A DAY

The Kern County Board of Supervisors held their regular weekly meeting in Havilah as part of the county’s 150th anniversary.

The Board heard speeches and got proclamations from nearby counties celebrating the birthday. A representative from Congressman Kevin McCarthy’s office presented an American flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol in commemoration of the sesquicentennial.

Supervisor Mick Gleason was glad to have a focus on a part of his district that is often overlooked.

Havilah was the county seat from 1866 to 1872 when it was moved to Bakersfield after losing a closely contested election by 23 votes.
