Pioneer Village in Oildale is ready to reopen the childhood home of a Bakersfield Sound pioneer.

The unveiling of the refurbished Merle Haggard boxcar on Sunday caps off a week of celebrations to honor the legend who died a year ago Thursday. Organizers hope the music acts, food, and other events will inspire younger folks to listen to his songs.
