ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING SIMULATES REAL THING

A dozen local law enforcement agencies and first responders took part in an active shooter drill that was very authentic. Bakersfield Police, SWAT, and others shot blanks and treated victims during Thursday’s scenario at the East Hills Mall.

City Fire Battalion Chief John Frando thinks the exercise sharpened their skills while BPD sergeant Ryan Kroeker says this plan has been in place since the Columbine school shooting almost two decades ago to prepare for a scenario that has happened across the country.

The last large-scale drill was held at Bakersfield College three years ago.
