(Sacramento, CA) — Environmental groups are criticizing Governor Gavin Newsom’s move to delay the end of issuing new hydraulic fracturing permits by 2024. Newsom signed an executive order to stop sales of new gasoline-powered cars and trucks by 2035, but also announced that he will ask the Legislature next year to end new fracking permits. The groups say Newsom can’t claim climate leadership, while allowing for the continued use of fossil fuels that lead to global warming.
