A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported in the morning near Bakersfield, According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit at 7:19 am 11 miles southwest of Bakersfield at a shallow depth of 12 miles. The U-S-G-S says shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. No immediate reports of any damage.
