Highway Patrol Looking for Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run

The Bakersfield office of the California Highway Patrol is looking for a vehicle involved in a hit and run crash.On Thursday, June 3, 2021, at approximately 6:12 a.m., Bakersfield Area units responded to northbound State Route-204 (Golden State Highway) south of Airport Drive for a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

Upon CHP arrival, the pedestrian, a male adult which remains unidentified, had been transported to Kern Medical Hospital by Hall Ambulance where he was pronounced deceased. Preliminary information shows the pedestrian was walking in an unknown direction, in the #2 lane of northbound SR-204 south Airport Drive when he was struck by a suspected Kia Optima. The driver of the Kia fled the scene northbound SR-204. No roads were closed as a result of this incident.

We believe the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was a 2016-2018 Kia Optima model with right front damage to the fender and wheel well. Anyone with information can contact the Bakersfield CHP Area office at 661-396-6600.
