Child Shot in East Bakersfield

Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office are looking for the suspects wanted in the shooting of an 11-year-old girl.

On August 16, 2021, at 9:15 p.m., the Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a victim of a shooting had arrived at a local hospital.  Deputies began an investigation and found that an 11-year-old female juvenile had been shot while she was a passenger in her mother’s vehicle at the intersection of N. Tulare St. and Jeffrey St.  Her mother immediately drove her to the hospital to be treated.

There were three other juveniles in the car ranging from 1 to 14-years-old, and they were uninjured.  Their mother, who was the driver, had minor injuries.  Through the initial investigation it appears the victims were followed by another vehicle for several blocks.  Once they got to the intersection of N. Tulare St. and Jeffrey St., the suspects shot at the victim’s vehicle several times, striking the 11-year-old.  The suspects drove away and have not been located.  The suspect vehicle was described only as a truck which was occupied by at least two people.

Detectives are following up on this case.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Kern County Sheriff’s Office at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.
