The Bakersfield Police Department has taken a man into custody for elder abuse in the early morning hours Wednesday. The full release is below:

On November 24th a 4:35 AM, the Bakersfield Police Department received a report of an armed (knife) intruder in a residence in the 1900 block of Hughes Lane. Officers were updated by callers that an elderly resident was trapped inside of the residence with the intruder, who was unknown to the occupants.

Upon arrival, officers made entry into the residence and encountered the suspect, Sergio Gonzalez (30) of Bakersfield, barricaded in a bedroom, with the elderly adult female (over 80). Physical force was used to take Gonzalez into custody as he was non-compliant with commands.

Gonzalez was arrested for sexual assault of an elderly victim, elder abuse, burglary and other associated charges.
