Four Arrested in Fatal East Bakersfield Hit and Run

The California Highway Patrol has arrested four people in connection with the fatal hit and run that killed a Bakersfield teen.

On January 25th, 16-year-old Angel Berumen was walking to school around 6:00 a.m. on Niles Street near Brentwood Drive when he was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene. Berumen was transported to a local hospital and later died. Officers determined the suspect vehicle was red in color.

On Thursday February 3rd, through investigation with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office and the CHP Central Division Investigative Unit, the CHP Bakersfield Area served a search warrant at a residence in east Bakersfield. Piece of evidence related to the felony hit and run were located. The suspect vehicle, a red Chevrolet truck was located at another residence in southwest Bakersfield.

The driver in the hit and run was determined to be 48-year-old Juan Rodelas Ortega of Bakersfield. He was arrested for Felony Hit and Run, Conspiracy, Concealment and Destruction of Evidence, and Aiding and Abetting.

Three other individuals were determined to have helped Ortega in concealing the vehicle: 49-year-old Liliana Cidrojas, 22-year-old Anahy Gisselle Rodelas, and 22-year-old Osbaldo Quintero Ortega. They were arrested for Conspiracy, Concealment and Destruction of Evidence, and Aiding and Abetting.
