The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a suspect was shot and killed by authorities Wednesday afternoon.

On February 9, 2022, at 1:10 p.m., the Kern County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of a suspect in the 5000 block of Pierce Road breaking car windows and committing assault with a deadly weapon.

Deputies responded and located the suspect, who was armed with a deadly weapon. The suspect then attempted to take an uninvolved subject hostage, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their identity will be released by the Coroner’s Office pending next of kin notification. No one else was injured.

Kern County Sheriff’s Office detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation.
