Pedestrian Killed after Car Collision in South Bakersfield

The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified a pedestrian who was hit and killed in south Bakersfield over the weekend.

The victim has been identified as 42-year-old James Lee Richardson Jr. of Visalia.

On February 20th, 2022, at 3:29 AM, officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of White Lane regarding a vehicle vs pedestrian traffic collision. Upon arrival they located an adult male down in the roadway suffering from major injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling westbound on White Lane when it struck the pedestrian who was in the middle of the roadway. The pedestrian was midblock, outside of a crosswalk when the collision occurred. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither speed nor alcohol/drug impairment were a factor in the collision.

The identity of the pedestrian will be released at a later date by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
