Bomb Squad Called to Kern Department of Human Services, One Arrested

A woman has been taken into custody following a bomb threat at the Kern County Department of Human Services in east Bakersfield.

On April 11th, 2022, at 4:27 PM, officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of a bomb threat at the Kern County Department of Human Services, 3711 Columbus Street.

The investigation revealed that a person was overheard by security making a bomb threat. The person, later identified as Millisa Leffingwell (31) of Bakersfield, left two bags to the front of the building and was uncooperative with responding officers. Based upon an abundance of caution, business staff were evacuated and the bags were examined by the Bakersfield Police Department Bomb Squad. The bags were found to not contain any explosive materials or devices. Leffingwell was placed under arrest for charges associated with the investigation.
