SWAT Required for a Domestic Violence Incident in East Bakersfield

A man has been arrested following an overnight stand-off with the Bakersfield Police Department.

BPD officers got the call around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Loma Linda Drive near Union Avenue for a report of a domestic violence incident in progress. It’s alleged 43-year-old Juan Gutierrez of Bakersfield was assaulting a woman with brass knuckles and hitting her with a firearm.

Bakersfield Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Robert Pair says when officers arrived, Gutierrez was uncooperative and fled into an occupied residence. Because he was armed, SWAT was called. Just after midnight, Gutierrez surrendered without incident.

He was arrested for charges related to domestic violence.
