DEPUTY CLEARED IN DEADLY OILDALE SHOOTING

A sheriff’s deputy has been cleared for duty following a deadly shooting in Oildale that began with a domestic violence call on March 10th. KCSO released body cam video Wednesday that may be disturbing to some people…It shows officers responded to the home on Beardsley Avenue after two calls for help, where the wife of 53-year-old Cole Hughes said he was armed with a rifle and an ax.

Officers called out Hughes for 20 minutes as crisis teams were summoned.

The Critical Incident Review found Deputy Nicholas Rocha was within department policy when he shot Hughes as he picked up the rifle, and because there were civilians nearby who refused to leave.
