BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Sentencing has been postponed for the Visalia woman convicted of child endangerment after leaving her two children inside a hot car in southwest Bakersfield.
Judge Charles Brehmer said Monday a decision hasn’t been made whether Maya Hernandez, 20, will be retried on the murder charge after jurors deadlocked during the trial in December.
Hernandez left her 1- and 2-year-old boys inside a Toyota Corolla Hybrid for more than two hours on a triple-digit day in June 2025 while she underwent a cosmetic procedure at a medical spa on Real Road.
Amillio Gutierriez, 1, died from heat stroke with an internal temperature of 107 degrees. His brother survived.
The next hearing is set for February 3rd.
