BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Talks continue between the cities of Bakersfield and Taft over housing inmates at the Taft community correctional facility.
Last week, the Bakersfield City Council directed staff to open talks with Taft officials for a potential deal to house as many as 120 nonviolent offenders at the prison.
The discussions come as Bakersfield faces ongoing issues with homelessness and people committing crimes but not doing time due to limited bed space in county jails.
The Taft prison currently houses fewer than 200 inmates but can hold up to 600 prisoners.
