EARLIMART, CA (KUZZ) — A chain-reaction crash involving nearly 60 vehicles shuts down both directions of Highway 99 north of Bakersfield.
It happened at around 8:15 a.m. Saturday near Earlimart after dense fog reduced visibility to near zero.
The California Highway Patrol reports a crash also happened in the southbound lanes of the 99 near Avenue 24.
Ten people were injured in 59 vehicles involving passenger cars and big rigs.
The accident comes on the heels of a wreck in the fog last week involving 43 vehicles — on Highway 58 between –Towerline and General Beale Roads — east of Bakersfield.
