BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Kern County celebrates National Police Week which runs through May 16.
Ceremonies are being held locally and across the nation to honor all law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in
the line of duty.
The Bakersfield Police Department will honor fallen officers on Thursday at 7:00 a.m. with a ceremony in front of the
Police Department on Truxtun Avenue.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a memorial on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at KCSO headquarters on Norris Road.
National Police Week was established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962.
That same year, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
