BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A Kern County Sheriff’s sergeant has pleaded not guilty to charges including burglary and illegal possession of an assault rifle.
Prosecutors say Ryan Dunbier, 56, entered the sheriff’s office property room on January 19, 2026, while it was closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and removed a bag containing three meth pipes.
Investigators say surveillance footage captured the incident and that Dunbier later admitted taking the pipes to smoke any drug residue left inside them.
He also allegedly appeared to be under the influence at the time.
Dunbier is free on bond and will appear for a preliminary hearing in August.
