BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — An active bomb threat in downtown Bakersfield has stretched from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning as local law enforcement and the FBI continue negotiations with a suspect inside the Chase Bank building.
Police say the suspect is contained inside a room and is holding hostages on the second floor at the building at 17th Street and Chester Avenue.
Bakersfield Police officers responded shortly after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities confirmed two hostages had been released as of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, while others remaining inside are reported safe.
The situation remains active, with officers and the Crisis Negotiation Team maintaining contact with the suspect.
Police have cordoned off the area between Truxtun Avenue and 18th Street and Chester to H Streets. You’re advised to stay away from downtown.
