MOJAVE, CA (KUZZ) — The Kern County Board of Supervisors has approved a major new solar energy project near Mojave.
In a 3-to-1 vote Tuesday, supervisors greenlit the Discovery Solar PV and Storage Project, a 1,400-megawatt solar farm paired with an eight-gigawatt-hour battery storage facility.
The project by independent power-producer Terra-Gen will cover roughly 7,700 acres and is expected to generate more than $750 million in tax revenue over its 35-year lifespan.
Construction could create up to 660 jobs at peak activity, with operations expected to begin by late 2029.
