BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — We’re learning more about the death of an 8-year-old girl whose burned body was discovered at a central Bakersfield motel.
A report by the Kern County coroner indicates Genesis Mata died from numerous injuries and chronic abuse.
She was discovered dead inside the bathtub at a motel room at La Quinta Inn on Buck Owens Boulevard August 1, 2026.
Gensis’s father Ray Mata, Jr. and stepmother Graciela Bustamonte face first-degree murder and torture charges and will return to court June 30, 2026.
